Art Exhibition at Marhaban-keskus, Tampere
This exhibition brings together paintings made not by individuals, but by groups of strangers from different backgrounds who came together over four workshop sessions to transform photographs of Tampere’s urban landscapes into geometric compositions, guided by the visual language of De Stijl.
Working in small groups, participants negotiated which lines, colors, and forms belong together. Collaboration became the medium as much as paint did. Each work carries the traces of that negotiation, compromise, agreement, and the slow work of understanding and being understood through shared decisions as well as shared words.
Each session also began with a few simple Finnish words and everyday phrases, inviting participants to share not only a creative process, but also the Finnish language as part of everyday life in the community.
The result is not a collection of individual artworks but a record of people learning to move through difference together: through color, form, and the small, ordinary act of trying to understand and be understood.
