Silence

Silence holds many meanings in Christianity. It is present in worship, internal peace; it enables prayer and contemplation and provides space for listening to loved ones.

Silence is a way to deepen one's relationship with God, support spirituality, and cultivate a listening heart. Its ultimate goal is often to create a space for encounter, connection, and transformation in the presence of God.

Silence, protect me.
Silence, cultivate new words within me.
Silence, lift me to my feet.
God, the beginning of all silence,
keep me in your shelter.

Quiet places

Home

Mikä sinun kodissasi on paikka, jossa mieluimmin levähdät?

Sit in peace.
Look around you.
Listen to your inner self.
If you wish, light a candle.
You are in God's love and presence.
Perhaps you can create a small prayer altar in your home?
A candle, a picture, something that supports your silence.

God,
I thank you,
that I always live in your gaze.
Even if no one else sees me, you see.
Teach me to rest in you.
Let my thoughts rest - aware that
you guide everything.
Let my heart rest - aware that
nothing can separate me from your love.

Nature

Nature offers us a continuous opportunity to become still, to be close to ourselves and our Creator.

”The primary language of God is silence.” - Robert Sarah

What is your favorite place?
Forest, rocks, the proximity of water...
Visit it often..
When you linger in nature, let the presence of God strengthen you through all your senses.
Stop, listen, watch,
feel the wind on your skin.
Is it a faint reflection, or a translucent image?
- He is entirely present.

Church

Do you long for the church, beyond just attending a service? You can boldly explore different places in the church and let them speak to you. Even on ordinary weekdays, a few church doors are open. They invite you to another world.

Sit on the bench

Here is a green meadow, God's embrace, a bench of repentance - whatever you long for. Let your breath steady. Perhaps, from your innermost being, a prayer will rise – your own words the Lord's Prayer... God is present.

...In You, O God, from my refuge, I find my life (Hymn 194)

Open Church of Alexander

In the Open Church of Alexander, you can find moments of solitude on weekdays, light a prayer candle, or even write a prayer request. If you wish, you can find a volunteer on duty in the church to accompany you.

The church is open on weekdays, and there is a priest or deacon available on Mondays and Thursdays from 4 to 6 PM.
