Our Principles
- All older people deserve dignity.
- All people interested in volunteering should have the chance to volunteer using the skills they have and with consideration for their other circumstances.
- At Mummon Kammari we work to build and strengthen the sense of community among people.
Volunteering can take different forms in different organizations and in different parts of the world.
We wish to remind you that…
- Majority of the older people we serve do not speak English. Currently we require basic Finnish language competency from all new volunteers.
- Although no special training is required, new volunteers should meet with a Mummon Kammari employee a few times to learn about us and about their volunteer role.
- There are some volunteer tasks that only require one-time commitment. Most of the time, however, our volunteers should ideally commit for a longer period of time to establish a meaningful connection with the people they are helping. For instance, it is difficult to quickly find a volunteer task for only a few weeks.
- We do not offer full-time volunteering programs. Usually, it is possible to volunteer a few hours a week at most.
Regardless of Finnish language skills...
- Everyone is very much welcome to participate in the activities held in our gathering place and all Mummon Kammari events! Our crafts groups and sing-alongs are open for all.
- It is also possible to book an introduction in English for your international class or group of students.
