Volunteering
Volunteers play an important role both in the federation of parishes and in your local parish!
Volunteer in Tampere Evangelical-Lutheran Parishes
Volunteering means helping others out without payment. While it greatly benefits both the individuals who receive assistance and society in general, it is meant to be enjoyable and meaningful for volunteers themselves, too. Volunteers often choose the cause or the organization they volunteer for based on their values.
Are you looking to offer your assistance as a volunteer? Perhaps you have questions about the Finnish level required of new volunteers?
In many volunteer positions of the parishes, it is necessary to speak and understand Finnish. This is because volunteers often assist vulnerable people who only communicate in Finnish.
However, we are working to dismantle language-related barriers to volunteering, and as more volunteering opportunities become available both in English and for Finnish language beginners, the list below will be updated!
Marhaban Center
Marhaban Center is an international meeting place for people from different cultures, located at Kaleva Church in Tampere. It is a welcoming living room–style space where people can meet new friends, spend time together, relax, and get inspired. Everyone is welcome!
Everything we do is made possible by volunteers. Our team includes employees, students, people participating in integration training, interns, and volunteers.
As a volunteer, you can take part in many different kinds of activities: leading small language or art groups, organizing cultural or discussion evenings, helping with creative workshops, or supporting visitors in learning Finnish and other cultures. You can also join our welcoming team, help prepare the space, greet visitors, and create a warm and friendly atmosphere — or help us with social media content! Or if you have a skill or idea, new suggestions on activities is warmly appreciated.
If you would like to join us as a volunteer, intern, or work placement participant, send us an email at maria.haapavaara@evl.fi or sanna.orama@evl.fi — or simply come visit us!
Mummon Kammari
Mummon Kammari organizes volunteer activities for the well-being of older people. It is also the name of our gathering place – a common space for people of all ages.
Our volunteers help older people engage in meaningful activities, assist them in their everyday lives and manage our gathering place. Products sold in Mummon Puoti, “Granny’s Boutique”, are all made by our talented volunteers.
At Mummon Kammari, you can volunteer with the skills of an ordinary person and basic understanding of Finnish language. All new volunteers should be able to engage in conversation about ordinary, everyday topics with older people. Assistance from our volunteers complements the work of professionals but does not replace it.

Please note that we do not offer international volunteer programs!
